In late 2023 Good Point Design worked with staff at St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney’s Alcohol and Drug Service, and Danielle Cuthbert of Glue Communication to develop a campaign for the relaunch of their Stimulant Check-in Clinic, S-Check. S-Check is a free and confidential clinic for people who use stimulants and who are curious or concerned about their use and want to know more. The service provides medical and counselling services in a non-judgmental environment, driven by the client’s (or consumer’s) needs and interests. Good Point Design worked on the look and feel of the campaign, informed by the consumer research that was carried out for the project.
The purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness about the service amongst communities of people who use stimulants and their support networks - including family, friends and potential referees, such as GPs. While there are trends in stimulant use, the people who use them aren’t limited to a single demographic, and so the campaign aimed to speak to a broad audience.
Communications for alcohol and drug services can often either talk down to would-be service users or try to disingenuously relate with the target audience (read: tries too hard to be down with the kids). We wanted to avoid both of these cliches to help minimise stigma, while still being clear, supportive and professional, to make this service as accessible as possible.
Designed for use across web, social media and printed promotional materials, the artwork sought to bring the campaign to life through the use of bright colours, simple layout and messaging. It aims to tap into a feeling - specifically, the feeling of transitioning from having fun to finding yourself out of your depth.
This suits a common pattern in stimulant use, where they’re first used in social settings, and over time can become interlinked with socialising and recreation in general. It’s akin to wanting to get off a ride that you’re not sure how to stop, or even to better understand how the ride works so that you know where you are on it.
